Yearly Archives: 2009

Take cover. Seek shelter. HIT THE DECK.

We had a wonderful (and cold) Christmas this year!  Our first stop was Anna, Illinois, to visit Grandpa Bob, Nana, and Aunt Haley.  After that, we headed up to Mt. Vernon to visit MeMe & PaPa and the rest of the Cherrys.  We played in the snow and ate way too much.  (But Dave got the P90X videos as a gift, so he’ll be buff in no time.)

As usual, the kids scored a ton of new loot.  In addition to the Hot Wheels Super Jump Raceway, the Indiana Jones Lego Temple of Doom, a pink iPod, computer artwork software, Star Wars sheets, Barbie sheets, and walkie-talkies, they also got two new B.B. Guns for Christmas!  After PaPa reviewed the 10 Safety Rules with them, they went outside to try and shoot a very high-tech target (an old pizza box).  Note: the dog was locked safely in the garage during target practice, and I made sure I stood waaay over to the side while I was taking pictures.

The facial expression on a marksman is very, very important.

I’m glad his face didn’t freeze this way.

Torin’s new ‘do.

Torin got her hair cut yesterday and I swear she aged about 3 years from the time we walked into the salon to the time we walked out.  She just looks so much older.  Of course a new haircut calls for new pictures, so we ventured out today to document her new look.  :)

The Thomas kids visit the Opry House.

We saw the Rockettes this morning.  Torin loved watching the singing, the dancing, and the set decorations.  Parker loved the kettle corn from the concession stand, the big salty pretzel, and the fun that came from kicking the seat in front of him.

Photography was prohibited during the show.  My camera must have accidentally fallen out of the bag and fired all by itself.

Both kids were convinced that the high-leg kicks were super easy (until they tried to do it themselves!).

Let the Christmas season begin!

A multiple choice for you…  Parker, who is looking quite handsome in his navy bathrobe, is getting ready to: (a) channel his inner Hugh Hefner to impress the ladies, (b) weigh-in for a boxing match, or (c) play the part of a shepherd in the Christmas musical.

The correct answer was c.  He actually did a fantastic job doing the shepherd shuffle dance moves and singing to all of the songs.  I was proud.

He only had a couple of moments of indiscretion, but c’mon, what can you expect when you give a pair of wooden sticks to a 5-year-old boy.

Back from the desert.

We made it back from Phoenix around 3 p.m. on Tuesday.  Our luggage didn’t make it until 9 p.m., but at least it made it.  I told my suitcase that I didn’t care where it had been, I was just glad it was home.  We had a fun-filled long weekend eating Mexican food, riding horses, climbing mountains, roasting marshmallows, and harassing Grandma’s little dog.  Now it’s time to switch gears and focus on Christmas programs, holiday parties, and shopping (I haven’t even started).  But first I’ve got two or three or twelve loads of laundry to do.

The morning nature show.

Now that the leaves have all fallen, we can finally see into the woods behind our house (just ignore the dirty windows please).  It seems like every morning we have something new roaming around our backyard, which amazes me since we live in the middle of the city.

This guy was strolling through our yard today.  He’d better keep his distance from me.  Back in college, I got really good at hitting deer with my car (three of them, thank you very much).  I really don’t want to hit another one, especially in my new truck.  (Oh yeah, I have a new vehicle!!!  No more minivan!  More on that later…)

Sabrina update.

Torin & Parker’s new cousin is now 6-weeks-old.  They still love her to death and talk about her constantly!  She stopped by for just a couple of minutes today and both kids just HAD to hold her.  Sabrina was such a good sport.  :)
